NOBU re-opened its store

A new era begins: Nobu Matsuhisa celebrates the grand reopening of Nobu Budapest

A thrilling new chapter has officially begun for Hungary’s fine dining scene! Following a monumental – 1.5 billion HUF (approx. €3.8 million) comprehensive renovation – Nobu Budapest has reopened its doors, elevating the city’s luxury gastronomy to a whole new global level.

To mark this milestone, legendary world-renowned chef and founder Nobu Matsuhisa flew into Budapest to personally welcome guests, partners, and the team to the stunningly reimagined space inside the Kempinski Hotel Corvinus Budapest.

“Nobu Has Always Been About Energy”

For 16 years Nobu Budapest has been a cornerstone of local fine dining. This upgrade, however, goes far beyond a simple facelift. The restaurant returns with an enhanced sushi bar, a completely redesigned bar concept, and state-of-the-art kitchen technology. Guests can also enjoy extended opening hours and live DJ sets on Fridays and Saturdays, ensuring the vibrant energy flows from dinner straight into the night.

“For me, Nobu has always been about energy,” Chef Nobu Matsuhisa shared during his visit. “My greatest joy is seeing people smile, talk, and have a wonderful time. That is the Nobu philosophy: making guests happy.” He also noted his ongoing inspiration from Hungarian culinary culture, highlighting his appreciation for local ingredients like paprika and foie gras.

A Historic Design Milestone

In a historic first for the global brand, the interior of the new Nobu Budapest was designed by a non-New York-based studio. Ákos Dániel Bara, founder of B.A.D. studio, was chosen to craft the new look – a privilege previously held exclusively by the Rockwell Group in New York.

“We thought in terms of evolution, not revolution,” Bara explained. The new concept beautifully balances Japanese and Peruvian influences. The lively, vibrant bar channels South American energy, while the serene dining area focuses on pure culinary indulgence, featuring custom-made furnishings, soft lighting, and materials that embody the perfection of Japanese luxury.

Uncompromising Quality and a United Team

The ambitious project was driven by a commitment to zero compromises. László Bárány Sr., founder-owner of Master Good (the family behind the development), emphasized that the same dedication to world-class quality that guides their 119-year-old family business was poured into this renovation.

While the surroundings are brand new, Executive Chef Gábor Schreiner – who has led the kitchen since day one – is most proud that the heart of the restaurant remains unchanged. “The technology has evolved immensely, but what truly matters remains the same: our team. We continue this journey with the exact same people who have built Nobu Budapest over the years.”

The grand reopening event brought together key figures from Hungary’s culinary, business, and cultural elite. With this spectacular transformation, Nobu Budapest doesn’t just start a new chapter in its own history – it firmly cements Budapest’s place on the international luxury dining map.
